The single "I Would Die 4 U" backed with "Another Lonely Christmas" was released in the UK. "I Would Die 4 U" is the fourth commercial single from Prince's seventh album, Purple Rain, which is also the first album credited to Prince and the Revolution. This release followed the promotional releases of "Syndicate" and "Erotic City," which came after the third commercial single, "Purple Rain."
This single marked the third release credited to Prince and the Revolution. It was released globally five months after the album's debut. The b-side track, "Another Lonely Christmas," was previously unreleased.
The single climbed to number 8 on the US Billboard Hot 100 Chart, becoming the fourth consecutive top 10 single from Purple Rain. Additionally, it reached number 11 on the Billboard Hot Black Singles Chart.
