The compilation album "Prince 4Ever" was released in the US, marking the sixth compilation of Prince's Warner Bros. studio work.
The 4 LP box set vinyl edition included six art prints by Herb Ritts. "Prince 4Ever" is the sixth compilation album of Prince's Warner Bros. studio work and the first official posthumous release.
It was announced six months to the day after Prince's death and released seven months later, in November 2016, over a decade after the previous compilation, "Ultimate." The album features Warner Bros.-era recordings under Prince's name from 14 studio albums, originally released between 1978 and 1993, plus the standalone single "Gotta Stop (Messin’ About)" and two tracks that debuted on "The Hits 1" and "The Hits 2" ("Nothing Compares 2 U" and "Peach," respectively).
It also includes the previously unreleased track "Moonbeam Levels." Unlike "The Hits 1" and "The Hits 2," most songs on this compilation are edited versions as they were originally released on 7" singles, notably "Little Red Corvette," "Let’s Go Crazy," and "Alphabet St.," which were not officially available on CDs in their edited forms before this release. Out of the 40 tracks, "Take Me With U," "Paisley Park," "Batdance," "Mountains," "Girls & Boys," "Glam Slam," and "Moonbeam Levels" had not been featured on any previous studio compilation album. A press release for the compilation, which also announced a remastered deluxe version of "Purple Rain" for early 2017, was issued on 21 October 2016, exactly six months after Prince's passing
