The album "Ringo" by Ringo Star entered the U.K. chart at number 09, reaching a peak position of number 07 , and remained on the chart for 20 weeks.
Ringo was the third studio album by Ringo Starr, released on Apple Records.
The release reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200 (kept from the top by Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road) and has been certified platinum by the RIAA. In Canada, it reached No. 1 on the RPM national albums chart.
Ringo stands out as the sole solo album by an ex-Beatle that includes contributions from all four former members, and it's known for its array of guest stars—a trend that would become standard for Starr in his later albums and tours.
In 1970, Starr released the standard tribute album "Sentimental Journey" and the country-western "Beaucoups of Blues." He then released the singles "It Don't Come Easy" and "Back Off Boogaloo" between 1971 and 1972, both produced and co-written with George Harrison, his former bandmate from The Beatles. The latter inspired by Marc Bolan's use of the term, these singles achieved significant success. Typically, such hits would lead to albums, but Starr chose to focus on his acting career instead. By early 1973, Starr felt ready to start his first rock solo album and enlisted Richard Perry, who had arranged a track on "Sentimental Journey," to produce the album.
Recording commenced on March 5, 1973, with Starr's arrival at Sunset Sound Recorders in Los Angeles. The sessions, produced by Richard Perry, saw Starr reaching out to his musician friends for support in his new project, and they all responded affirmatively. Participants in the sessions included Marc Bolan, four members of The Band (excluding Richard Manuel), Billy Preston, Klaus Voormann, Nicky Hopkins, Harry Nilsson, Jim Keltner, and James Booker. Moreover, Lennon, McCartney, and Harrison each made appearances and contributed compositions for Ringo.
Two singles were released from the album "Photograph" and "You're Sixteen"
