December 2, 1973 - Golden Earring

The single "Radar Love" entered this week's UK chart, remaining on the chart for a total of 13 weeks and peaking at the No.7 spot, where it stayed for 3 weeks.

The release also reached No. 9 on the Record World chart, No. 10 on Cash Box, and No. 13 on Billboard in the United States. It hit the top 10 in many countries.

The song narrates from the perspective of a man who shares a psychic bond with his lover, termed "radar love." He feels her urgent desire for his presence, and in his rush, he drives carelessly, leading to a tragic accident. Yet, even in the afterlife, the connection between the song's protagonist and his lover, their "radar love," persists.

Similar to other iconic songs of its time, such as "Highway Star," "Stairway to Heaven," and "Bohemian Rhapsody," "Radar Love" is structured as a suite with various unique and contrasting sections, yet the tonality remains consistent throughout.

According to Rustyn Rose of Metalholic, the song "is a rock masterpiece, with its hooky chugging bassline, simple yet unmistakable riffs, and a catchy chorus that has an anthemic quality. The jam that carries the song to its conclusion is classic, note for note."

The song has been selected by numerous magazines and websites as a top driving song, frequently appearing in the top three. It earned the title of best radio song from Washington Post readers in November 2001. In Australia, it was ranked as the number one driving song (Australian Musician Magazine, November 2005), surpassing two AC/DC tracks; and it achieved the same status in Canada (BBC Canada, March 2006). In 2011, it garnered a significant number of votes as the "Ultimate Driving Song" in a Planet Rock poll, decisively outperforming its closest competitor, Deep Purple's "Highway Star."
