December 1st 1987- Prince

One week ahead of its planned release Prince cancels The Black Album, it would eventually be officially released in 1994 however Prince’s publicist at the time Karen Lee told the St. Paul Pioneer Press "He had to sign an agreement — I can't go into why — but contractually, he didn't have a choice.” And added that Prince was still “spiritually against the album”.

Susan Rogers (long time Prince studio engineer) is on record as saying “It was never intended to be an album, We just wanted stuff to dance to at the party.” While Prince himself spoke to Rolling Stone Magazine in 1990 and said “I suddenly realised that we can die at any moment, and we’d be judged by the last thing we’d left behind,” adding “I learned from that album, but I don’t want to go back.”
