This week on the UK Singles Chart, Roy Wood's single "Forever" debuted at number 42.
The song, written and produced by Roy Wood, features him playing all the musical instruments and providing both lead and multi-tracked backing vocals.
The song reached number 8 on the UK Singles Chart and remained there for 13 weeks, spanning the end of 1973 and the beginning of 1974. It achieved a higher position in the UK chart in January 1974 than Wizzard's "I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday". The A-side label of the single expressed "special thanks to Brian Wilson and Neil Sedaka for their influence". The track was also released as a single in New Zealand, the Netherlands, Portugal, and South Africa.
Roy Wood performed the song on BBC's Top of the Pops three times: on December 20, 1973, January 3, 1974, and January 17, 1974.
The track "Forever" has been featured on numerous compilation albums, including Wood's own 'Singles' released in 1993 by Connoisseur Records, and 'Through the Years: The Best of Roy Wood'.
In terms of reception, Alexis Petridis of The Guardian praised the song as a solo hit that beautifully envisioned a collaboration between Neil Sedaka and The Beach Boys
